What is Restorative Yoga?

Restorative yoga is a quiet, meditative practice that emphasizes precise alignment and the therapeutic use of props to support your body in comfortable positions for extended periods. We believe in the intelligence of proper alignment and power of supported stillness. Our therapeutic approach focuses on:

  • Careful attention to body positioning for maximum benefit
  • Therapeutic use of props for accessibility and support
  • Systematic sequencing to address specific needs
  • Mindful holds that allow deep tissue release
  • Precision and safety in every pose

Each pose is held for 3-10 minutes with as needed meticulous prop placement, allowing your body to naturally release tension while maintaining proper alignment.

Benefits of Restorative Yoga

Our alignment-based restorative practice can help with:

  • Structural imbalances and postural issues
  • Chronic pain through proper body mechanics
  • Joint health and mobility
  • Spinal alignment and back pain
  • Nervous system regulation
  • Deep stress relief
  • Improved body awareness
  • Enhanced breathing capacity

Meet Your Instructor – Dr. Tania Storm, DAc.

My yoga journey began with a gentle nudge in 2000—though my first Ashtanga class nearly sent me running! Fortunately, I discovered alignment-based yoga the following year in a Bikram class, and everything clicked I was hooked. Within months, I was in teacher training in Iyengar style, and I’ve never looked back.

Over 20+ years and 840 hours of training later, I’ve studied everything from restorative yoga to yoga nidra to Budokon, with tai chi and qigong rounding out my movement practices. I’ve had the privilege of teaching many students and training new instructors to share this transformative practice.

These days, I’m expanding my toolkit by pursuing my acupuncture license—because understanding the body’s energy systems from multiple perspectives just makes sense. I’m also certified in intuitive life coaching and Equus coaching for groups and individuals, where horses serve as my wise co-facilitators (honestly, they do most of the heavy lifting).

My approach weaves together all these modalities to support your journey toward balance, whether on the yoga mat, the treatment table, or in the presence of these magnificent animals.

Other Questions

Do I need yoga experience?

Not at all! Restorative yoga is perfect for beginners. There’s no complex movements or flexibility required. If you can breathe, you can do restorative yoga.

What makes restorative yoga different from other yoga styles?

Restorative yoga is passive rather than active. You’ll use props to support your body in comfortable positions and hold them for extended periods. It’s about relaxation and release, not strength or flexibility.

How often should I practice restorative yoga?

Even once a week provides benefits. For stress management or chronic conditions, 1-2 times per week is ideal. We offer class packages to support regular practice.
